Bryant was suspended indefinitely by the NFL in 2018 for multiple violations league’s substance-abuse policy and violating the terms of a conditional reinstatement. But he was reinstated last week and the Cowboys took an immediate interest, hosting the wide receiver for a visit that turned into a contract.
The 31-year-old was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played in the 2014 and 2015 seasons before missing all of 2016 due to a year-long suspension. Bryant returned to Pittsburgh in 2017, but had a decreased role after JuJu Smith-Schuster’s arrival.

The then-Oakland Raiders traded for Bryant prior to the 2018 season and released him that September. Despite Bryant facing another year-long suspension, the Raiders signed him to a one-year deal. Bryant played in eight games (two starts) and caught 19 passes.
He was indefinitely suspended in December 2018, but he kept busy in other football leagues including the XFL.
It’s unclear how much Bryant has left in the tank after not playing in the NFL for five years. But he’s only 31 years old, and obviously impressed Dallas enough during his visit to warrant another shot in the league. The Cowboys are 5-3 as they prepare for their Week 10 game against the New York Giants.
