WESTFIELD — Each fall as classes start at Westfield State University, officers with the city Police Department’s Community Services Unit visit apartments that historically have been occupied by college students to let them know what behavior is acceptable and what’s not.
“We let them know to be respectful of their neighbors,” said Officer John Blascak, who is one of several community service officers who visit apartment houses at the beginning of each semester to drop off what is called a “community packet” to students from Westfield State University who rent apartments.
“And hopefully we can try to prevent an issue before it happens,” Blascak said.
