Both the Patriots and the Jets have an important Week 3 ahead of them, and history isn’t on New York’s side in two different ways.
Zach Wilson is 0-4 against New England in his career and has thrown seven interceptions during that time. The Patriots have also won their last 14 games against their AFC East rival. And if the Jets want to snap that losing streak, they’ll need their quarterback to be at his best.
And Wilson, who’s now in the spotlight after Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles, knows ball security is going to be an all-too important factor if the Jets want to move to 2-1.

“I just need to be smart with the ball,” Wilson told reporters on Thursday. “Especially the last time we played them at home, a lot of them were just dumb plays by me. So, I need to play one play at a time, be efficient with the football, trust what I’m seeing and play ball.”
Those “dumb plays” Wilson is referring to are the three interceptions he threw last season in the Jets’ 22-17 Week 8 loss to New England at MetLife Stadium. The QB completed 20 of his 41 passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns.
Both teams enter Week 3 desperate for a win, with the Patriots looking to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2000. The Jets, meanwhile, are 1-1.
While Jets defender Sauce Gardner isn’t impressed by New England’s offense, Patriots Hall of Famer Rodney Harrison sees a “scared” Wilson at quarterback.
