A second New Bedford man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Lorenzo Gomes from Monday morning, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
Wyllie Monteiro, a 25-year-old New Bedford man, was arrested early Thursday morning in Dartmouth, and charged with accessory to murder – after the fact, the district attorney said. He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning in New Bedford District court, the district attorney said.
Monteiro is the second suspect charged with being an accessory to Gomes’ shooting death, the district attorney said. Sterling Robinson, a 24-year-old New Bedford man, was arrested in Fall River on Monday night and also charged with accessory to murder – after the fact, the district attorney said.
Robinson is being held without bail after having his bail revoked on a previous case, the district attorney said.
New Bedford police had responded to the area of Tallman and North Front streets to a 911 call of shots fired at 12:11 a.m. on Monday, officials said.
Witnesses came up to officers on the scene, who reported hearing loud bangs that sounded like gunshots, and officers eventually found Lorenzo Gomes, of New Bedford, severely injured from gunshot wounds in his car on Belleville Avenue, the district attorney said.

Police said it appeared Gomes had tried to drive himself to the hospital before he lost consciousness in his car. He was brought to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The district attorney called the investigation into Gomes’ death “extremely active” and did not provide any further information on the case.
