Police ID woman, 46, killed in early morning Newport News shooting – The Virginian-Pilot

NEWPORT NEWS — Police have identified a 46-year-old woman who was shot dead early Friday morning in Newport News

According to a new release, officers responded to the 3000 block of Madison Avenue, near Jefferson Avenue, to a report of a shooting at 2:55 a.m. Police found Kyna Chanele McGowan, of Newport News, outside with at least one gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead six minutes later.

Police have not released information about a potential suspect, and the investigation is ongoing. The department said detectives are canvassing the area, and the forensics team is on scene.
