A man was killed overnight in Raynham when the pickup truck he was traveling in crashed off the side of the road and into a traffic light pole, according to local officials.
Police have not publicly named the man killed. Four other passengers were seriously injured in the single-vehicle crash, Raynham Police and Fire officials said.
Around 2:20 a.m., the Raynham Police and Fire departments responded to the intersection of Route 44 and Paramount Drive, where a Ram pickup truck had crashed off the road and into a traffic light pole, Police Chief James Donovan and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita said in a joint statement.
All five occupants were trapped in the vehicle and were freed by first responders using a hydraulic rescue and cutting tools in a “delicate” extrication that took several minutes, the statement said.
Officials said an adult man was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other men and two women were rushed to local hospitals with serious injuries. The statement did not say which of the occupants was driving the pickup truck. The identity of the man killed is being withheld until his family is notified of his death, officials said.
A portion of the eastbound side of Route 44 was closed for several hours but was expected to be open by 6 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Raynham Police and Fire departments and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
