HENRICO — Two people are dead, including a New Kent County teen, following a crash on Interstate 64 early Saturday.
Witnesses told investigators the drivers may have been racing with two other vehicles at the time of the accident, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash took place on I-64 west near Richmond International Airport in Henrico County just before 1 a.m., according to a news release.
Police said Rodney Fowler, 45, of Henrico County, was driving his Jaguar near mile marker 196 when he collided with a Lexus. A Honda Civic, driven by a 17-year-old male from New Kent, then struck the Jaguar, which collided again with the Lexus. The Jaguar then ran off the road and overturned in the woods.
Both Fowler and the New Kent County teen died on the scene. Excessive speed may have been a factor, police said.
The driver and passenger of the Lexus were transported to VCU Medical Center for non-threatening injuries. Police did not release the teenager’s name.
