A Norfolk man has been charged in a fatal shooting in the Oyster Point Plaza parking lot in Newport News Friday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched just before 1:30 p.m. to a shooting in the parking lot of the plaza, which is located in the business district in the 300 block of Oyster Point Road near the Warwick Boulevard intersection.
The Newport News Police Department determined the incident was the result of road rage, according to a Saturday news release. Police said the incident started with two people driving on the roadway and ended in the Oyster Point parking lot.
A man found with a gunshot wound died at the scene. The victim was identified as Crystal Mittelstadter, 51, of Newport News.
Police said the suspect in the incident remained on scene and was taken to Newport News police headquarters to be interviewed. Then, after speaking with witnesses, reviewing evidence and consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, police charged As-Siddiq Abdul-Aziz in connection to the shooting.
The 22-year-old Norfolk resident was arrested late Friday night and brought to the Newport News City Jail.
