NORFOLK — A 75-year-old man died early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 64, according to Virginia State Police.
A state trooper came upon a traffic backup in the high occupancy vehicle, or HOV, enclosed system along I-64 between the I-264 interchange and I-564 at about 12:41 a.m. Saturday morning.
The trooper determined that the driver of a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas SUV had struck a pedestrian.
Police said the man, who state police have identified but are not naming until they notify next of kin, had walked into the path of the vehicle.
The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured, state police said.
This is a developing story.
